Clément Saunier, trumpet
Clément Saunier has been principal trumpet of the Ensemble intercontemporain since 2013 and teaches trumpet at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Lyon. He plays the contemporary repertoire — Zimmermann, Eötvös, Gruber, Pintscher, Maresz — with the ensembles and orchestras that commission it, from the Philharmonie de Paris to Carnegie Hall, and has worked with Pierre Boulez, Péter Eötvös, Matthias Pintscher and Simon Rattle.
Trained at the Paris Conservatoire in Clément Garrec’s class, a prizewinner at Porcia, Prague, Jeju, Brussels and Moscow, he founded the Surgères brass and percussion academy in 1998 and directs two festivals, Le Son des Cuivres in Mamers and the Surgères Brass Festival. He plays Antoine Courtois, Paris, and designed three of the maker’s instruments. Full biography · discography · concert dates.
